Harley Davidson: The American Legend The first thought of motorcycles as a means of transportation began in the year 1900. The pioneersââ¬â¢ of this field were William S. Harley and his lifelong friend Arthur Davidson. They were both born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. It took them almost three years to build their first production ready motorcycle which was a single cylinder, 10 cubic inch engine. It was bolted directly to a bicycle chassis driven by a pulley system with a leather belt. We are going to look at the development, racing, and the people who made the Harley Davidson an American Legend. à à à à à In 1907 they were experimenting with a two-cylinder model, which was essentially the same engine they started with. The only difference was that they had bolted one more cylinder at a 45 degree angle to the first. There were only two configurations possible. The side-by side twin would have been too wide and bulky. The v-configuration was the necessary choice. The other prominent companies were Indian, Thor, and Excelsior. At the beginning of WWI, they were overwhelmed with orders from governments around the globe for bikes for the war effort. This allowed Harley-Davidson to almost triple the size of their manufacturing plant, which is still located in the same place in Milwaukee. These orders brought greater economic prosperity to all the motorcycle companies of the time but especially Harley-Davidson. à à à à à Harley-Davidson became very involved with racing between 1915 and 1925. They have continued to stay involved in racing ever since, but with much less success since they had to start competing with Japanese companies. The Harley-Davidson always placed in the top five at every event, and sometimes all five seats were taken by Harley-Davidsons. These early races were very well organized but usually very dangerous. This scared a majority of the public but the young were entranced by it and sought for sponsorship from major companies such as Harley-Davidson.

Interview with Grandparents Essay
The concept of marriage has changed over the years, the definition has not. When interviewing Dante (sr. ) and Joanne Zarlenga, both had much to say on the topic. Dante, a retired engineer, navy man, and company owner, said ââ¬Å"I feel as though the sanctity of marriage has diminished over the years. â⬠With this being said, the definition of marriage is the formal union of two persons, recognized by the law and oftentimes the church. The concept of marriage has radically changed. In the days when Dante and Joanne were married, 60+ years ago, marriage was the ultimate form of commitment, meant to last a lifetime. In todayââ¬â¢s society, marriage is simply another level of commitment, ready to be terminated at oneââ¬â¢s wish. Parenthood is often considered the most difficult journey in the life of a person. When one becomes a parent, whether or not it is within marriage, he/she becomes responsible for the life of another. Joanne said, in a humorous way, ââ¬Å"I think the most difficult aspect of parenthood is giving birthâ⬠¦.. your father might have been the most painful. â⬠Dante then interrupted by saying, ââ¬Å"there are many ups and downs about parenthood, but a good parent never quits.â⬠These are words to live by. The sheer concept of being responsible for the life of another person is difficult and often terrifying, but watching that child blossom that makes parenthood so fulfilling and rewarding. By anyoneââ¬â¢s standards, there are many rewarding aspects of parenthood. As Joanne stated, ââ¬Å"itââ¬â¢s hard to pinpoint one moment of parenthood that has been the ââ¬Ëmostââ¬â¢ rewarding. â⬠She continued by saying, ââ¬Å"from the moment my first child was born to the moment I take my last breathe, that is the most rewarding part of parenthood. â⬠This statement says so much. Joanne is simply stating that every aspect of parenthood is rewarding, not just one particular moment. ââ¬Å"There are so many things to be proud of my children for. Theyââ¬â¢ve all grown into such wonderful adults,â⬠said Dante. It is parents like Joanne and Dante who prove that even difficult task can be rewarding. As everyone knows, becoming a parent changes every aspect of oneââ¬â¢s life, especially personal and work. When Dante and Joanne had their first child, Joanne missed a lot of work. She was the type of mother who wanted to be there to raise her child instead of hiring a nanny to do it for her. Because she was taking so much time off work, Dante began to work longer days to compensate for the lack of a second income. Like all parents, Dante and Joanne did what they could to create a comfortable life for their children. The change of parenthood was ââ¬Å"a breath of fresh air,â⬠said Dante. ââ¬Å"It was nice to know I was capable of more than creating parts or taking orders,â⬠he continued. Parenthood is not for everyone because of the changes that occur in oneââ¬â¢s own life. As far as changing the past, both Dante and Joanne agreed that although they might not have been perfect parents, there was nothing they would do to rewrite history. Whatever their means of parenting, it must have worked because they raise four children into four successful adults. There are so many things parents-to-be should know. As stated by Dante, ââ¬Å"the one thing I wish I would have known prior to becoming a parent is just how hard parenthood is. â⬠There is not one single piece of advice the Zarlengas would give because there are so many lessons better learned through experience. ââ¬Å"The one thing I will tell anybody considering becoming a parent, be ready to give your life for someone else,â⬠said Joanne. Parenting and grandparenting are separated by a generation. Grandparenting comes in many different forms. Some grandparents co-raise their grandchildren, some just babysit occasionally or when they are needed. ââ¬Å"There is only one wrong form of grandparenting, trying to raise grandchildren as your own,â⬠said Dante. Oftentimes grandparents used grandchildren as a way to correct there mistakes when they raised their own children. As said by Joanne, ââ¬Å"grandparenting is like a second chance at parenting. It is also the best way to share the wealth of knowledge with my children.â⬠She acknowledges that there are certain lines not to be crossed by a grandparent. Throughout the many stages of parenthood, there are many challenges to be faced and many rewards to be reaped. In the eyes of Joanne, one of the hardest parts of parenthood is not knowing how to calm your child down as a new parent. ââ¬Å"there were nights when Joe(the oldest) wouldnââ¬â¢t stop crying and it killed me inside because there wasnââ¬â¢t anything I could do about it,â⬠said Joanne. Dante agreed adding, ââ¬Å"it was difficult when the kids were learning things that I could no longer help them with. I felt incompetent.â⬠Both agreed that the most rewarding part of parenthood is looking at who their children have become and the wonderful things they have accomplished. After interviewing Dante and Joanne Zarlenga, my grandparents, I felt a sense of hope for the future. I realized that there are many things to look forward to in the future. There was nothing that I was too surprised by. Getting married and raising a family is one of the most challenging endeavors, but the rewards are unmatched by anything else. There are many aspects I would deem necessary to be a good parent. One of the main qualities would be patience. I can only imagine the difficulty of raising a child and then letting him go. I often feel that being a parent, in certain ways, is similar to being a manager of a big corporation. Both involved a great deal of responsibility to be accountable for other peopleââ¬â¢s lives. I know my grandparents very well and know that their children are their pride and joy and their grandchildren are a close second. They would do anything for anyone in their family and not expect anything in return. The Zarlengas are truly selfless which makes them the best type of parent and grandparent.

A receivables turnover ratio can be used to quantify a firms effectiveness in extending credit as well as collecting debts. A high ratio implies either that a company operates on a cash basis or that its extension of credit and collection of accounts receivable is efficient. A low ratio on the other hand, implies a company should re-assess its credit policies in order to ensure the timely collection of credit accounts that are not earning interest for the firm. Case Study Southern Nevada Mcit - 928 Words
I thought I had a very good experience working with the Help of Southern Nevada MCIT. The team I worked with consisted of a nurse named Marsha, who has over 45 years of experience working in hospitals, but has only been working with the homeless for about a year. The other team members consisted of a young male who was a resident of the Help youth homeless shelter and a female who has been working with the homeless for over 3 years. The MCIT worked with different agencies such as the Salvation Army and law enforcement. The MCIT started on the South end of the strip to contact homeless and offer services to them. Most of the homeless people that we encountered did not want any help and it was obvious that they had some kind of mental problem. There were two homeless individuals that team made contact with that wanted help. One of the clients was a 33 year old male who arrived in Las Vegas the day before from San Francisco. He told us that he was traveling from Washington State all the way down south to California by backpack and ended up having his ID stolen. He had no source of income besides what people gave him on the streets. He wanted to get a bus pass to Wichita, Kansas, so he can get his birth certificate and social security card and return to Vegas to find a job and start work. The team I worked with took him to the Salvation Army to get him a bus pass and also Help provided him with three daysââ¬â¢ worth of food for the bus ride. The homeless man told Marsha (nurse) that

What Determines Expertise In Heart Failure Self-Care free essay sample
Since heart failure is common among people living in developed nations, the researchers attempted to explore self-care by patients diagnosed with such a condition. Specifically, they studied the self-care behaviors of patients with chronic heart failure and identified the factors or variables that were associated with expertise in self-care. How It Was Studied The researchers used a study design that combined both qualitative and quantitative methods. They recruited 29 patients diagnosed with chronic heart failure, supported by an abnormal left ventricular ejection fraction on echocardiography. The physicians and nurses who were in charge of these patients were then asked to classify them as being either good or poor in self-care in terms of their heart failure. Interviews were conducted with the patients, and their loved ones were encouraged to participate in the discussion. With the use of open-ended questions and probes, the patients were prompted to talk about their methods of self-care. Using the data thus acquired, one of the investigators à who was blinded to the results of the other parts of the investigation then classified each of the participants as poor, good or expert in heart failure self-care. The patients were also asked to complete a sociodemographic survey and questionnaires measuring the following variables: symptoms and physical limitations; heart failure self-care; excessive daytime sleepiness; family functioning; and depression. Finally, two neurobehavioral tests were administered to the participants. The Probed Memory Recall Test measured their short-term memory and learning ability. The Digit Symbol Substitution Test measured their attention and cognitive processing. Qualitative categorization of self-care expertise was done with descriptive statistics. For comparison of the quantitative data obtained between groups of different expertise, analysis of variance and chi-square analyses were performed using SPSS 13.0. What Was Found / Discovered Out of the 29 participants, only three (10.3%) were rated by the blinded investigator as expert in heart failure self care. They were all female homemakers who did not live by themselves. They were older than the other 26 and surprisingly had less years of formal education (mean = 12.7 years). Their average body mass index was lower (mean of 26.6) but they had more comorbid illnesses (mean Charlson Comorbidity Score of 4.7). Although 33.3% of them rated their overall quality of life as poor, 66.7% rated their health as good while only 33.3% rated their health as fair. (It must be remembered, however, that there are only three ââ¬Å"experts.â⬠Thus, 33.3% refers to just one participant, and 66.7% refers to just two.) The factors that further distinguished the patients who were ââ¬Å"expertâ⬠in heart failure self-care from those who were merely ââ¬Å"goodâ⬠at it were excessive daytime sleepiness (the experts tended to be less sleepy), ability to describe specific heart failure symptoms, understanding of their treatment, and supporters who were actively involved in their heart failure self-care. The small sample size of the study, however, limited its statistical power. The Relevance of the Research for Nursing Practice The findings of the study indicate that nurses can do more for their patients than merely administering medicines or taking their vital signs. Since nurses interact with heart failure patients at length, they have a great opportunity to contribute to their development of self-care. Taking some time to educate them about the symptoms of heart failure and the rationale behind its treatment can go a long way.
